The heavily-wooded home site ensures complete privacy and nature views for the client who occasionally retreats to the lowcountry for both business and pleasure. The site also features water trail views on three sides and the lot’s unique shape and size allows the architecture to respond to the live oak canopy and water trail rather than property lines or the streetscape.
A strong connection to the outdoors and a slightly more modern interpretation of “Lowcountry shingle style” were the two biggest client requests. An open, transitional floor plan evolved and spans the site with walkways, porches and lodge-like public space. A modern interpretation of rustic, lodge-like interiors complements the gathering spaces. Vaulted ceilings and dormer windows allow plenty of natural light to filter throughout the home.
Interior millwork includes layered finishes and textures featuring nickel joint paneling, stone and brick accents and organic wall coverings. These frame the home’s gracious floor to ceiling windows, transoms, and entrances, promising plentiful views of lowcountry vistas.
